About this component

This piece of toughened borosilicate glass is the top of our Cirrus 1 cloud chamber enclosure.  It has excellent visible light transmittance, and avoids the need for visible wires in the path of the primary viewing window.

On the topside is the heating element, with silver frit busbars along both long edges, that accept solder. This gives approximately 40 Ohms edge to edge. We went with 48V with PWM control, for a maximum of about 58W. This creates a strong temperature gradient with the bottom cold plate.

The bottom (inside) electrode is 150 Ω/ITO coated with a single bus bar around the parameter. This is the high voltage anode for ion sweeping for Improved track clarity.

We chemically etch the deleted zone on the High Voltage side to remove any residual ITO that may act as leakage path.
